Miranda Bivins (right), coordinator of the local United Way financial literacy initiative, was the guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Lions Club. The Financial Literacy program was adopted by the Murray Calloway County United Way as a tool to make local residents more “bankable” and given basic skills for financial independence. Bivins described how residents of Murray and Calloway County are being taught basic financial planning with the help of local bankers who support the program and serve as instructors in the program.
