The Murray Lions are regular participants in the Murray Calloway County Reality Store which is designed to teach financial management to local students. This is a collaborative effort of the Calloway County Cooperative Extension Service, Leadership Murray, Murray Lions, Murray Family Resource Center, Calloway County Middle School Youth Service Center, Calloway County High School Youth Harbor, and Murray State University
The students travel from booth to booth to make choices and decisions about monthly purchases and deal with monthly expenses. There are routinely about eighteen different booths for students to visit. The students receive prior training with the High School Financial Planning material, a curriculum of the Colorado Cooperative Extension Program, and the National Endowment For Financial Education. This instruction prepared and heighten the learning experience for these students.
Recent survey results show 79% of students shared that they had a better understanding of making wise financial choices, 85% felt that they needed both the classroom and hands-on experiences to be prepared for the community and real world to come.
