JOHN WRIGHT / Ledger & Times LIONS CLUB DONATES TO SKATE PARK: Linda Avery, president of the Murray Lions Club, hands a check for $5,000 to Jason Lovett, chairman of the Murray-Calloway County Park Board, Wednesday morning at Lions Club Community Skate Park inside Murray-Calloway County Central Park as other county, city and community observers participate in the presentation as well. This check marks the third installment of a $25,000 commitment by the Lions Club to the Murray-Calloway County Skate Park Committee and Murray-Calloway County Parks & Recreation that will finance general operations of the park.
In 2010, Murray community members petitioned to have a skate park built for the area.
Though the Lions Club Community Skate Park was completed in October 2012, students and community members are working to add more ramps and rails.
Since the Skate Park’s opening, students and community members donated money and volunteered their time to aid in the development of the Skate Park.
In 2016, the Lions are looking for funding to add the second phase to this well utilized community facility in Murray’s Central Park.
In 2016 the Murray Lions are exploring a second phase addition to the Skate Park. The addition is pictured below and we will be announcing community funding projects including the Lions Auction 2016.
