The Library Visits The Murray Lions Club


At a recent meeting of the Murray Lions Club Mignon Pittman, Director of the Calloway County Public Library (CCPL) gave a detailed overview on the state and the future of the library. She addressed the future needs of the CCPL based on projected population growth, the options and budget being discussed for expansion.

CCPL’s Sandy Linn discussed the broad variety of services and programs offered by the CCPL, including summer reading programs, children’s programs, digital materials and web centered programs available.

Murray Lions KidSight Funded By Local Family and Company


At Tuesday night’s meeting of the Murray Lions Club Scott Allen and his daughter Sarah present a check from Wisdom Tree Technologies  to Linda Avery (left) of the the Murray Lions Club that will fund the Murray Lions KidSight program for the 2018-19 Lions year. In presenting the check Scott and Sarah told their personal story of when Sarah was in preschool she was screened by the Murray Lions KidSight program and identified the need for glasses. Scott said this donation was very personal and close to home.

Scott is President and CEO of  Wisdom Tree Technologies, based in Murray, KY and  the company is dedicated to supporting our local and national communities via charitable organizations supporting non-profit, community-based organizations that contribute to the quality of life for the citizens in our local and national communities.

Below Lion President Vicky Crafton shows Sarah how the latest version of the KidSight camera operates. President Crafton state ” this is a major and heartfelt gift that demonstrates the importance of our KidSight program.”

Murray Lions Features PADD

Mike Maxwell (right), Purchase Area Development District (PADD) business lending specialist, was the featured speaker at a recent meeting of the Lions Club. Maxwell outlined the myriad services that PADD provides to businesses and individuals across the Purchase area of western Kentucky, including programs for human support, community infrastructure planning, economic development, and special projects. Tiger Band Marches Into The Murray Lions Club

Tim Zeiss, Murray Independent Schools band director, was the featured speaker at a recent meeting of the Lions Club. Zeiss talked about the many successes of the band program at Murray High School, including the Tiger Band’s 2018 Class A state championship. Zeiss, right, pictured with Lions Club President Jim Gray, works with about 170 students in grades 6 through 12.

First Responders 2018 (002)


Each year around the time of National Police Week (May 12-19, this year) the Lions Club recognizes the first responder of the year from each of the agencies that serve Murray and Calloway County. Each agency selects their awardee who is then recognized and presented a plaque at a meeting of the Lions Club.

This year’s selections and their supervisors are pictured from left to right: Lion Jim Gray, club president; Murray Police Officer Marian Cosgrove and supervisor Chief Jeff Liles; Calloway County Jail Deputy Brad Roland and supervisor Jailer Ken Claud; Murray-Calloway County EMS Paramedic Darrick Poe and supervisor Director Marty Barnett; Calloway County Sheriff’s Office Telecommunications Supervisor Nathan Baird and supervisor Major Nicky Knight; Murray Fire Department Firefighter Zach Steward and supervisor Battalion Chief Sean Kelly. Also recognized but not pictured were Murray State University Police Sergeant Ryan Orr and Kentucky State Police Trooper Donald Bowman.

Murray Lions Host Tigers!

Murray High Tigers girls basketball coach Wyatt Foust and top player Macey Turley were the featured speakers at a recent meeting of the Lions Club. Coach Foust talked about his coaching experiences at the college and high school levels for both men and women. Turley, who has signed to play at Murray State next season with her former coach Rechelle Turner, talked about the team effort that is required to win. Murray Lions Share Racer Pride

Murray State Associate Athletic Director Steve Harrell (far right) and Softball Coach Kara Amundson (second from right) were the guest speakers at a recent meeting of the Murray Lions Club. Each presented their own unique perspective on what it is like to work in athletics at a mid-major university trying to compete successfully with larger, better funded programs. The importance of education with Racer student-athletes was also discussed and Steve Harrell reported that the student-athlete GPA at Murray State is performing better than the all student average, Also shown are Lions President Jim Gray (far left) and Past President Paul McCreary.

Michelle Bundren (second from right), Interim President of the Murray Calloway County Chamber of Commerce was guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Murray Lions Club. Bundren updated Lions on the various projects the Chamber is currently involved in to bring new businesses to the area. The Lions Club is a member and strong supporter of the Chamber of Commerce. Woodmen Life Present Community Leadership Award


At a recent meeting of the Murray Lions Club, Woodmen Life presented their 2017 Community Leadership Award to Murray Lions Immediate Past President Paul McCreary. In thanking the Woodmen Life representatives, McCreary said “the Murray Lions Club gave me the platform to give back to this great community.” Pictured are Rachel Brown (far right) from Woodmen Life who presented the award, Paul McCreary (holding plaque), and to the left long time Murray Lions Sid and Phyllis Gutting.

Also participating in the meeting were Lions District 43-K Treasurer, Kim Spalding and Zone 1 Chair, Bob Spalding pictured below with their daughter and Murray Lions president Jim Gray (far right). They discussed the upcoming District 43-K convention and the upcoming changes to District 43-K
